The Internet vs. The Web

Although many people think of the Internet and the Web as being one and the same, that is in fact not true. The Internet is the infrastructure that connects the networks all over the world, which includes the hardware and the software itself. According to NBC news, it is commonly said that the Internet is the "network of networks". On the other hand, the Web, or World Wide Web, is also another avenue for transmitting data across the Internet, but using a URL which is entered into a browser. The web is used when a person is using a website with a URL code. The web is not as old as the Internet is.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, computer scientists Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn are credited with inventing the system that we now know as the Internet. Cerf and Kahn developed a set of guidelines for data transfer using packet switching in 1980, calling those guidelines TCP/IP, or Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol. This provided the backbone Foran efficient and large web of interconnected networks, which inspired the name, Internet.

The World Wide Web was created by Tim Burners-Lee, a British computer scientist. By 1990, he had created the URI, HTML, and HTTP that people use today. He also wrote the first web page browser and web server. Tim Burners-Lee had the goal of making the web accessible for anyone, and his goal has been achieved.
